Sweetwater County Transit Authority Resource (STAR) offers Deviated Fixed Route service on all of its regular routes.  A deviated - fixed route service is a hybrid of fixed route and demand response services.  With this type of service, a bus stops at fixed points and keeps to a timetable but can deviate its course between two stops to go to a specific location for a pre-scheduled request.  After deviating from the route buses return to the same point to continue their run.  Deviated Fixed Route service requires one hour advance reservation.  If you cannot get to a designated bus stop, you may be eligible for the bus to come to you.  Deviated service is offered within one-quarter mile of all regular routes.  Due to the limited availability, please do not anticipate this service will be available at all times and during all trips.  If you live outside the one-quarter of a mile, STAR provides paratransit door-to-door service.

Demand Response rides are still available to those outside the fixed route service area on a first come first serve basis, by appointment with 24 hour notice.  This includes all areas outside the City of Rock Springs

STAR Transit will be opening its services up to normal capacity starting Monday, August 24th.   We are excited to be able to offer more spots on the bus and excited for our riders to have more flexibility!!

However, there are a few rules that will need to be followed in order for STAR to operate this way during the current pandemic.

  1. 1.       FACE MASKS WILL BE REQUIRED FOR ALL RIDERS

The bus is a small space and therefore the six-foot distancing requirement cannot always be maintained with more people being on the bus.  Face coverings will be required starting Monday, August 24th.  This is to keep everyone safe so that we can continue to offer more capacity.  Riders that take their masks off while on the bus will be asked to get off at the next stop and will not be allowed on the bus if the behaviors continue.

  1. ANY RIDES NOT SCHEDULED THROUGH THE OFFICE (FIXED ROUTE AND SHUTTLE SERVICES) WILL NEED TO PROVIDE A NAME AND PHONE NUMBER BEFORE BOARDING THE BUS

Riders on these services will be asked to list their name and phone number on a roster when they board the bus.  This is for COVID-19 contact tracing purposes were there to be a rider who tests positive after being on the bus.  Anyone not complying will be asked not to board the bus.

  1. 3.       HAND SANITIZER IS AVAILABLE ON THE BUS AND ENCOURAGED.

Riders are encouraged to use the hand sanitizer provided on the bus when they board.  Also, riders signing the roster are highly encouraged to use the sanitizer after signing.

  1. 4.       PLEASE CONTINUE TO SOCIAL DISTANCE AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE FROM OTHER PASSENGERS.

Although we are lifting the capacity restraints, riders should continue to try sit as far as possible from other riders unless they are living in the same households.  Please be considerate of others and do not sit right next to anyone else unless no other seats are available.

  1. 5.       ANYONE WHO IS EXHIBITING ANY OF THE FOLLOWING COVID-19 SYMPTOMS SHOULD NOT BOARD THE BUS
  • Fever or Chills
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Fatigue
  • Muscle or body aches
  • Headache
  • Sore throat
  • Severe congestion/runny nose
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Diarrhea

If you have any of the symptoms listed above, DO NOT board the bus and please seek medical advice.

  1. 6.       BE CONSIDERATE OF OTHER RIDERS AND DRIVERS

These have been trying times for all of us.  Please know that we understand that everyone wants to get back to normal, but we are not there yet unfortunately.  Please be considerate to other passengers and the drivers.  Anyone not behaving appropriately will not be allowed to ride the service.  We are hoping that by everyone following the rules we can keep our buses following the normal schedules and keep getting everyone where they need to go.

FROM ALL OF US AT STAR, THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT AND WE LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU ALL!!
