Sweetwater County Transit Authority Resource (STAR) offers Deviated Fixed Route service on all of its regular routes. A deviated - fixed route service is a hybrid of fixed route and demand response services. With this type of service, a bus stops at fixed points and keeps to a timetable but can deviate its course between two stops to go to a specific location for a pre-scheduled request. After deviating from the route buses return to the same point to continue their run. Deviated Fixed Route service requires one hour advance reservation. If you cannot get to a designated bus stop, you may be eligible for the bus to come to you. Deviated service is offered within one-quarter mile of all regular routes. Due to the limited availability, please do not anticipate this service will be available at all times and during all trips. If you live outside the one-quarter of a mile, STAR provides paratransit door-to-door service.
Demand Response rides are still available to those outside the fixed route service area on a first come first serve basis, by appointment with 24 hour notice. This includes all areas outside the City of Rock Springs.
No fixed route service at this time. Rides by appointment only with at least 24 hrs notice. Appointments for the next day will only be taken until 3:00PM.
THE BOARD MEETING FOR JUNE 2021 IS BEING HELD ON JUNE 7TH 2021 AT 5:00PM AT THE STAR OFFICE.

November 12, 2020
Due to the increasing numbers of COVID-19 in our communities, STAR Transit will be discontinuing the fixed route services starting Monday, November 16th. We apologize for any inconvenience this causes our customers, but our first priority is the safety of our passengers and drivers. However, these changes are being put into place so that STAR can safely continue to provide essential travel needs in our community. Please do not board the bus if you are have a cough, fever, or are exhibiting any other COVID-19 symptoms. If you are sick you may be asked not to board the bus. STAR will continue to provide these essential transit services to our community as long as we feel we can operate safely. We are planning to run services with the changes below until further notice or unless circumstances force us to change. We will keep the public informed if other changes need to be implemented.
- NO FIXED ROUTE STARTING MONDAY, NOVEMBER 16TH
Starting on November 16th, we will not run the fixed route service in Rock Springs. Instead, we are asking anyone who will need a ride to call and schedule the ride with dispatch. In Rock Springs, anyone living in the fixed route area that would normally use the route will be asked to use the nearest stop to their house to be picked up, and will be dropped off at the nearest stop to their destination. These rides will be the $1.00 fixed route fare, but will have a 15 minute window before the scheduled ride time and a 15 minute window after the scheduled ride time when the driver can arrive. If you would rather be picked up at your home and dropped off at your destination, you may pay an additional dollar ($2.00/ride). However, if the bus cannot safely maneuver to certain places, you will be picked up or dropped off as close to the those areas as possible. All ADA approved rides who currently receive deviated fixed route service will be picked up at their door and dropped off at their destination as they were before. Green River services will continue to be door-to-door. If the bus arrives to pick you up and you have not cancelled your ride you will be charged a no-show fee and will need to pay before you ride again.
- CAPACITY INCREASING WEDNESDAY MARCH 17TH, 2021
STAR will be lifting the seating restrictions. Buses can resume without limits on capacity. We are not going to open the fixed route, but will keep the service as is with customers calleing in to schedule their rides as well as taking same day rides as availability allows. Please keep in mind it is first come first serve so the earlier you call the better your chances to get a ride.
- MASKS WILL BE REQUIRED TO RIDE WEDNESDAY MARCH 17TH, 2021
Even though Govener Gordon lifted the state-wide mask mandate March 16th STAR Transit falls under the federal mask mandate that is still in place. When riding STAR Transit masks are still required.
- FARES
The fare structure will remain the same. If you are not sure of a fare, please call the office and ask the dispatchers.
- REGULAR SHUTTLE TIMES BUT BY SCHEDULED RIDE ONLY
There will still be shuttle service from Rock Springs to Green River and from Green River to Rock Springs. The regular shuttle times will not change, but any of these trips will now need to be scheduled in advance. The bus will not pick people up at the Park and Ride in Green River to shuttle to Rock Springs or from the transfer station at Western Wyoming Community College to shuttle to Green River without a scheduled trip.
- SENIOR SHOPPING TIMES
Senior shopping times and trips into the Young at Heart and Golden Hour Senior Centers will continue as normal but the buses will have limited seating. We encourage people to schedule their shopping trips and trips into the centers up to a week prior to assure seating availability.
Please be patient with our dispatchers and staff. We are trying to accommodate the current situation to the best of our ability. Thank you all and please stay safe.
